Backsliding: Releasing The Judas In Me

Author Jim Gloyd had all but lost his life in a state of backsliding and dying from a Meth overdose.  He felt alone and dark as his very life and mind tried to evade him.  

Jim poses the question, at the beginning of his book, "how did this happen to me?  I walked with the Lord--I knew him!" 

But unlike many who have succumbed to temptations and addictions, he doesn't blame God or Satan for his demise. Instead he takes the reader on his journey of backsliding and then Victory through Christ.  

As you continue reading BECOMING FREE FROM THE JUDAS IN ME, you see a man who was strong in the Word, with everything to live for and every reason to move forward in the direction of success.  At this point in the book, I realize that if this man could fall into drugs, then any person or worse, any Christian can fall as well. I had to keep reading to find out how he escaped the clutches of this insidious evil.

It was by the grace of God that Jim found his way out of the pull of drug abuse by choosing the power of the cross to be free of Satan's trap as he studied the scriptures.  Now free, the author's message is clear for anyone trapped within the depth of self-abuse in any form, "you are not alone, and you can be free through God's Word!"  WHAT A MESSAGE FOR US ALL!

That very paragraph you just read gives me the chills every time I read it.  And that is how Jim writes.  Each time he presents a  devastating stumbling block or circumstance that can overtake Christians, he then demonstrates the power of God's Word and the shed blood of Jesus Christ to cover our sins for forgiveness. Reading his story is a subtle lesson in God's Word that teaches as you read.  

I was struck with this unique style of his writing because you don't feel as if you're reading an instructions book, yet you leave his story filled with faith and new insights about God's Word.   

He clearly shows how easy it is to be tricked and seduced in our minds by Satan if we're not entrenched in the Word of God and shows throughout his story how the Word can set us free and restore our lives.  And while he acknowledges the age-old battle of good verses evil, rather than indulge himself in self-pity and excuses, he elevates our thinking to the true purpose of this battle with Satan using God's people as pawns in order to have victory over God and all of His goodness.  

The devil is ever present, seeking whom he might devour if we're not vigilant.  Yet Jim shows how his experience ultimately took him beyond Satan's pull and insidious trap of worldly pursuits to God's love and forgiveness.  Even Christians who have never fallen, don't always see this truth about God that is ever present, yet unrecognized.  Jim highlights God's love throughout his book, reminding us that we have a loving and generous Heavenly Father waiting for us to trust in Him. 

He also warns to obey Roman's 12:1-2, which implores us not to conform to the world, but instead to transform our minds to the perfect will of God. If we don't, our hedges will be down. We will remain stuck in a state of being thrashed about, easily taken by the devil's temptations. This instruction makes clear the fact that we have been given a free will to choose which path to take, whether it be to follow the world or to follow God through a relationship with Jesus Christ.

BECOMING FREE FROM THE JUDAS IN ME is a book that will lead the reader to victory from any addiction, feeling safe in the arms of Jesus and powerful in God's ability to be set free.  He doesn't just speak God's Words but he proves with the full restoration of his life, that any Christian can find their way back to Christ through the uncompromised Word of God, giving us power and strength to overcome a backslidden life that has deteriorated our minds against the things of God.

I loved how strongly Jim used his experience to emphasize the importance of transforming our minds with the Word of God. So many Christians walk around with the world's influence in their lives, but we became "New Creature In Christ" at salvation. This means that we need to feed our hearts the Word of God to create that nature in us.  This is what Jim Gloyd had done before his fall, and it is that life force within him that gave him VICTORY!

Jim's writing is a powerhouse of God's Words for overcoming whatever might have caused you to become a backslidden Christian if you can identify with his plight. Let his story walk you down the path to the life God has waiting for you.
